The ACES mission is to treat each student in a holistic manner to ensure successful and meaningful experiences, both inside and outside the classroom, which ultimately contributes to completion, successful careers, and fulfilled lives.

ACES oversee a group of 100-150 incoming students. ACES serve as a peer-mentor, advocate, and friend to these students with a goal of connecting them to SUU. ACES coach these first-year students on how to use resources, get involved on campus, tips on how to succeed, and many other things related to being a successful college student.

This mentorship will begin when a student pays their enrollment deposit and continues throughout the first-year. Regular communication, outreach, and meetings which occur between the ACES and the students they oversee throughout the summer, fall and spring.

ACES work closely with the First-Year Experience and Orientation (FYE) office on campus. As such, ACES will be involved with and work at Thunder U, Spring Orientation and other FYE events throughout the school year.

ACES also participate in many retention efforts across campus. ACES will be expected to participate in calling campaigns, registration efforts, work in The Nest (student help center) and many other activities to ensure that all SUU students receive the support they need to be successful at SUU.

ACES work 40 hours per week over the summer and 20 hours per week during the school year.

Qualifications:

SUU students applying to be an ACE must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Be in good standing with the university, both in conduct and academically.
  2. Be available to work for one year (May 2021-April 2022). If you cannot work the entire year for any reason, please do not apply.
  3. Have a willingness to work hard, be coachable, have a positive attitude, and be a good team member.
  4. Be humble, adaptable, and have a sincere desire to serve and help others.
  5. Must be mature, professional, friendly, kind and welcoming of every student and inclusive of all.
  6. Willingness to develop professionally. “Know it alls” need not apply.
  7. Be willing to fail and grow from mistakes.
  8. Understand this job is not about you. “Show horses” need not apply.
  9. No previous campus experience is required.
  10. Being an ACE is a year long commitment, if you are planning to study abroad, complete an internship, apply for professional jobs during your potential time as an ACE, please do not apply.
  11. Undergraduate students will be considered first.
